Bret graduated from the University of Michigan with a major in economics and a minor in business. Bret's career started as a project controller for a multi-million dollar construction loan for a Northern Virginia builder and developer. He has done economics and research work for associations in the building, packaging, and economic industry. He also has experience doing research consulting for a variety of associations.
At NWRA, Bret is the Secretariat for the ANSI Z245 standards on Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials. The scope of the ANSI ASC Z245 is: design, manufacture, operation, installation, modification, servicing, maintenance and use of equipment, technology, including the operations of facilities and activities in which this technology is incorporated, for the purposes of collection, transportation, containment, processing, treatment, and disposal of solid wastes and collection , transportation, containment and processing of recyclable materials.
Bret also oversees the Manufacturer Sales Data (MSD) program collecting sales data from NWRA members for the various equipment used in the waste and recycling industry. Bret is part of the safety team; a team who strives to make the industry a safer environment for workers. In addition to using government data, he conducts primary research for many issues.
In his personal time, Bret enjoys coaching and playing basketball, soccer, and softball. Bret is a certified soccer referee. He also likes taking his two dogs on long walks.
