Temporary Workers Safety Training

In 2013, OSHA introduced the Temporary Worker Initiative, which provided guidelines for temporary worker safety, including joint responsibility between the agency and host employer for all injuries/fatalities and record keeping guidelines. In this 35-minute course, participants will learn:

  • An overview of the OSHA Temporary Worker Initiative
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used on the host employer’s job site
  • The procedures for handling hazardous materials using OSHA’s Hazard Communications Standard (HAZCOM)
  • Techniques to prevent injuries and accidents while on the job site
  • Preventive techniques to prevent heat and cold related illness
  • Collection and Post Collection safety including lock out/tag out and confined spaces

  • $40.00 – Non-Members

Safe Driver’s Certification Preparatory Course

This 1-hour course prepares drivers to take the Certified Safe Driver exam. It consists of 4 modules and includes:

  • Basic driving controls
  • Industry standards and regulations
  • Driver Safety Protocols
  • Sample exam questions

ISRI Hazard Recognition Training Course

ISRI offers this free Hazard Recognition Training to the Waste and Recycling Industry as part of OSHA’s Susan Harwood Training Grant Program administered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The following are dates and locations for the ISRI Hazard Recognition classes for October.

  • Wednesday, 18 October: Drury Plaza Hotel Indianapolis Carmel, Indianapolis IN
  • Friday, 27 October: Double Tree by Hilton – Jacksonville Riverfront, Jacksonville FL
  • Tuesday, 31 October: Technology Conservation Group facility in Lecanto FL

Again- these are free classes. 

  • The classes will start at 8:00am.
  • Lunch will be served at all the locations.
  • The class lasts 7.5 hours

Info about the class:

This class is free and is relevant to recyclers across all commodities who would like employees to learn more about hazard recognition and mitigation in the operations environment. This includes:

  • How to recognize the hazards of and safely work around mobile equipment and other hazards;
  • An understanding of the importance of the control of hazardous energy (LOTO);
  • Good housekeeping practices;
  • How to recognize fire hazards;
  • Hazard communication in the workplace; and
  • How to do a PPE hazard assessment and the importance of proper PPE;

Those attending the class will also learn what a hazard assessment is and through group work how to build a PPE job hazard assessment.
