NWRA RESPONDS TO EPA’S PFAS ACTION PLAN

Arlington, VA – Today, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) released its comprehensive PFAS action plan. The action plan identifies the steps the EPA is taking to address PFAS. Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances, known as PFAS, are found in a wide range of consumer products that people use daily such as cookware, pizza boxes and stain repellants. Most people have been exposed to PFAS.

“The National Waste and Recycling Association is pleased that the EPA has released its action plan for PFAS. This issue is important to our members and we have been following it closely. NWRA looks forward to being a part of the process as we work with the agency to develop appropriate policies that are based on science,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith.

Although action plan does not impact landfills directly, landfills are impacted due to potential additional requirements made by downstream receptors for their leachate. In addition, regulators are increasingly requiring landfills to conduct additional monitoring for the most common PFAS compounds.
