The Minnesota Legislature gaveled in the 2023 session, setting the stage for what Democrats hope to be a transformative year now that they regained the power of both chambers and the governor’s office. Members are expanding the filing of EPR legislation that is supported by the Product Stewardship Institute. To be proactive, members have formed a subcommittee that will focus on presented EPR policies, “wants and needs” in a potential bill, and tools members can use when talking to legislators.
Members are closely involved with multiple counties’ Zero Waste initiatives. For example, Hennepin County’s Zero Waste Plan includes EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility), organics collection, and further policies that will impact all members.
