Mallory Szczepanski is the vice president of member relations and publications for the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) and the publisher and editor-in-chief of NWRA’s official magazine, WasteRecycling magazine. In her role, she is responsible for managing member relations; leading education programs for meetings and events including WasteExpo, North America’s largest solid waste, recycling and organics industry event; managing NWRA’s social media accounts, website, publications and marketing efforts; and serving as the NWRA staff lead for the Education Committee and Membership Committee.

Mallory has worked as a B2B journalist since 2011, covering industries such as waste and recycling, architecture and design and food and beverage. Before joining NWRA, she was the editorial director at Waste360, a leading industry publication. In that role, she led all editorial efforts for the online publication as well as WasteExpo. She also covered all aspects of the industry in her reporting and created Women Leaders in Waste, a monthly series sponsored by the NWRA Women’s Council that highlights the work of women in the waste and recycling industry.

Mallory holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Columbia College Chicago and is continuing her education by participating in the Leadership Grand Traverse 2023-2024 Cohort and the 2023 Women’s Leadership Cohort. She also currently serves as the founder of Fear The Writer LLC, the program chair for the Traverse City Young Professionals, a board member for Addiction Treatment Services and was honored as one of the 2023 Influential Women of Northern Michigan by the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

In her free time, she enjoys iced oat milk lattes (you’ll almost always find one in her hand!), yoga, Muay Thai, dancing, reading, working on her first thriller novel, volunteering in her local community and spending time with family, friends and her significant other Cameron.
