NWRA State Update: NWRA Texas Chapter Tracks Two Bills
The NWRA Texas chapter is following House Bill 19 and Senate Bill 207.
This week, the chapter members have been distributing letters to each member of the Senate Transportation Committee in support of House Bill 19 sponsored by Rep. Jeff Leach (R-67). This bill relates to civil liability of a commercial motor vehicle owner or operator. This bill will be heard on May 11 by the Senate Committee on Transportation.
Senate Bill 207 is the “paid v. incurred” bill by Sen. Charles Schwertner (R-20). This bill addresses admissible medical expenses in a trial. It passed the Senate on May 5 with a vote of 6 to 3. It now must be placed on a House floor calendar via the House Calendars Committee. This bill is likely to be picked up by Rep. Dennis Bonnen (R-25), chairman of the Appropriations Committee, who carried the companion House bill.
