NWRA State Update: PWIA Follows Energy Bill, Reviews Infrastructure Study
In Pennsylvania, only the Senate will be in session this week. The House is scheduled to return on May 24.
On May 11, the Senate Environmental Resources Committee will consider Chairman Gene Yaw’s Energy Choice Legislation (Senate Bill 275), which would “place decisions regarding restrictions on the use of any energy source in housing and commercial energy applications solely within the purview of the state. This will ensure that all Pennsylvania businesses and homeowners have the opportunity to access energy, whether it be natural gas, solar, wind, geothermal or other. Further, this legislation will be a step forward in developing a statewide energy policy addressing all forms.”
On May 12, the Senate Transportation Committee will hold a public hearing on the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Planning and Environmental Linkages Study, which aims to provide essential infrastructure investment now and for the future; identify and implement near-term funding solutions; and identify and prepare for long-term funding solutions. PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian and senior departmental staff will appear at the hearing to discuss the need for alternative funding mechanisms to support Pennsylvania’s infrastructure needs.
