NWRA Applauds Introduction of Bipartisan Legislation to Strengthen Recycling Efforts
NWRA Chairman Testified in Favor of Legislation Aimed at Increasing Access to Recycling Infrastructure
ARLINGTON, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) thanks Sens. Tom Carper (D-DE), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and John Boozman (R-AR) for introducing legislation focused on improving recycling and composting systems.
“NWRA fully supports the bipartisan bills being proposed by Chairman Carper, Ranking Member Capito and Sen. Boozman to address the issues of improving rural recycling accessibility and data collection for recycling and composting,” stated NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “The Recycling and Composting Accountability Act and the Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act are both integral to advancing America’s domestic recycling infrastructure and capabilities at a critical time when supply chain shortages are demonstrating the need for greater self-sufficiency.”
In February, NWRA Chairman Ben Harvey testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee at its hearing to examine these legislative proposals to improve domestic recycling and composting programs, particularly in rural areas. NWRA has been meeting with and providing assistance to EPW Committee staff as these bills were being drafted. The Association will continue to actively support these pieces of legislation to ensure that they become law.
