NWRA Attends White House Trucking Event
The Event Highlighted the Biden Administration’s Trucking Action Plan
Arlington, VA – National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Chief of Staff and Vice President for Safety and Standards, Kirk Sander, attended an event at the White House that highlighted the Biden Administration’s Trucking Action Plan. The event focused on the new registered apprenticeship program to increase the supply of truck drivers by creating new pathways into the profession, cutting red tape to expand high-quality training and laying the foundation for improving job quality to keep people in the profession.
“We applaud President Joe Biden and his administration for taking these important steps to increase the supply of truck drivers,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “Driving for the industry offers numerous advantages such as rising wages, a five-day workweek, set daily work schedules and being able to return home at the end of each day’s shift, unlike long-haul drivers. Despite all this, our industry’s companies are increasingly struggling to find enough CDL drivers.”
NWRA is in the process of finalizing an apprenticeship program, making it among the first associations to do so and the only one representing the waste and recycling industry.
