NWRA’s Maryland Chapter Files Comments with State Advisory Board on Heat Stress Standards
Arlington, VA – The Maryland chapter of the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) filed comments with the Maryland Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health office to provide industry input on the development of regulations that address heat stress standards.
“The waste and recycling industry has long recognized the hazards associated with heat and cold and strongly supports Maryland’s efforts to adopt regulations that will protect employees from heat-related stress in the workplace,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “We look forward to working with the Maryland Department of Labor throughout the rulemaking process.”
NWRA is actively engaged with the U.S. Department of Labor and its Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on heat stress-related issues. Kirk Sander, NWRA chief of staff and vice president of safety and standards, serves on the OSHA National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Work Group. The work group provides recommendations to the secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor on heat injury and illness prevention guidance and rulemaking.
