NWRA Publishes Issue Brief on PFAS
Arlington, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) published an Issue Brief about per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, chemicals commonly known as PFAS. Since the 1940s, PFAS have been used in a variety of industries and products.
“As communities work to address the presence of PFAS, we believe it is important to understand the common sources of PFAS and the commons paths to exposure to it as well. We are pleased to publish this issue brief to help avoid misunderstandings of PFAS,” said Darrell Smith, NWRA president and CEO.
The common path to exposure to PFAS is from drinking water that was contaminated by firefighting foam or industrial facilities; or through contact with consumer products that contain PFAS. Other exposure can occur from breathing air that has dust contaminated with PFAS. The dust could be from soil, carpeting, upholstery or clothing.
