December 20 Report:
New York members met with Governor Hochul’s Director of Operations and Assistant Secretary for the Environment this week to discuss EPR and minimum content ahead of the new legislative session in January. NWRA members found the meeting very productive and hope to work closely with the governor’s staff to promote a solution that benefits residents of New York and the waste and recycling industry going forward.
Our members are also awaiting the final scoping plan for New York State’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. The plan will lay out how New York plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030 and no less than 85 percent by 2050 from 1990 levels. The scoping plan will be released on December 19th and NWRA will be working with like-minded business organizations to assess its impact on our industry.
