NWRA New Jersey Chapter Testifies Against Proposed EPR Legislation
Arlington, VA – Lew Dubuque, vice president of chapter management for the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), testified on behalf of the New Jersey chapter in opposition to proposed extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation. He urged the legislature to let existing recycling laws work before moving to an EPR regime.
In his testimony, Dubuque said, “New Jersey recently passed post-consumer content legislation to create more robust markets for materials recovered through recycling programs. It is vital the state gives this new law time to have an impact.”
The proposal also does not have any industry stakeholders on the state Advisory Council on Solid Waste Management, the council which would have the authority to implement EPR. Dubuque called on the legislature to establish a separate organization that includes representatives of the waste and recycling industry to help manage the EPR programs.
