NWRA Urges Senate Leaders to Prioritize Critical Infrastructure Industries in Stimulus Package
Homeland Security has Designated Solid Waste as Part of Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce
Arlington, VA – In a letter sent on March 22, the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) called upon Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to prioritize critical infrastructure industries, which includes waste and recycling, in the stimulus package that is under consideration in Congress.
“Our member companies collect residential, commercial, industrial and medical waste. Our services are vital to protect public health. We will continue to operate throughout this crisis and at times we will not be compensated. We ask that the economic stimulus package prioritize assistance to critical infrastructure industries as identified by the Department of Homeland Security,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith.
The Department of Homeland Security designated solid waste collection as an essential critical infrastructure industry upon a request made by NWRA to Secretary Wolf.
