Investing in Leadership: NWRA Women’s Council Awards $50,000 in Scholarships to Ten Deserving Recipients
Generous Contributions from NWRA Members Make Scholarships Possible
Arlington, VA – Today, the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Women’s Council proudly announced its ten scholarship recipients for 2024:

In 2007, the NWRA Women’s Council established an educational scholarship program to assist qualified individuals in pursuing an education that will lead to productive careers in the waste and recycling industry. All NWRA member company employees and their dependents are eligible to apply.
“We are thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2024-2025 NWRA Women’s Council Scholarships,” said Tammy Holtzman, chair of the NWRA Women’s Council Scholarship Committee and district manager at Waste Connections. “Each of these remarkable individuals has shown exceptional promise and dedication to shaping the future of the waste and recycling industry. We are proud to support their academic pursuits and look forward to witnessing their continued success.”
The Detachable Container Association (DCA) partnered with the NWRA’s Women’s Council to announce that this year’s Mickey & Ellen Flood Scholarship recipient is Alyssa Berry of Waste Connections.
“Above all other pursuits, Mickey’s passion was taking care of people,” said Holtzman. “The DCA Board of Directors established a scholarship to memorialize his numerous contributions to our industry. It is named to honor Mickey and Ellen as co-founders of the NWRA Women’s Council.”
This scholarship program is aimed at benefiting NWRA member company employees and their dependents through the Women’s Council Scholarship. The scholarship is made possible by the generous donations of companies within the DCA, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
The NWRA Women’s Council extends its sincere gratitude to the generous donors whose ongoing support makes these scholarships possible. Their commitment to fostering excellence in education is instrumental in advancing the mission of the NWRA Women’s Council and creating industry opportunities for future generations.
