National Waste & Recycling Association Welcomes Two New Team Members to Drive Industry Initiatives

Arlington, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) is proud to announce the addition of two key professionals to its staff. Genevieve O’Sullivan has joined as chief of communications and Sara Bixby as director of technical and regulatory. Both professionals bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will be pivotal in advancing NWRA’s mission to promote the recycling and waste industry.

“We are thrilled to welcome Genevieve and Sara to the NWRA team,” said Michael E. Hoffman, president and CEO of NWRA. “Their unique skill sets and industry knowledge will help us drive forward the important work of the recycling and waste sector. As we continue to confront complex challenges, their leadership and expertise will be invaluable to our members and the broader community.”

O’Sullivan comes to NWRA with an extensive background in strategic communications and advocacy work in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining NWRA, she worked with various associations, heading communications for industries including pesticides, agriculture and forestry. Her work has spanned issues impacting the food chain, as well as state-level recycling and waste advocacy. O’Sullivan’s leadership in communications will bolster NWRA’s ability to engage with key stakeholders and address critical challenges impacting the industry.

Bixby joins NWRA with more than 30 years of experience in solid waste and resource management. Her previous roles include serving as deputy executive director for the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), where she led a variety of impactful projects such as landfill management training programs and the development of the SWANA–CRRA Zero Waste Principles and Practices certification course. At NWRA, Bixby will provide leadership on regulatory and environmental matters, supporting NWRA members and the Healthcare Waste Institute.
