NATIONAL WASTE & RECYCLING ASSOCIATION APPLAUDS RECOGNITION IN INAUGURAL PARADE

Arlington, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) applauds the incoming administration’s inclusion of the waste and recycling industry in the 2025 inaugural parade. This recognition underscores the essential role our industry plays in maintaining the health, safety, and sustainability of communities across the country.

“We are honored to have our industry’s contributions highlighted in such a prominent way,” said Michael E. Hoffman, NWRA president and CEO. “From daily waste management to disaster recovery, the waste and recycling industry is a cornerstone of our nation’s infrastructure. We look forward to collaborating with the Trump administration and Congress to develop policies and regulations that support our ability to continue serving as an essential service industry.”

Waste and recycling professionals are in our communities and our roads and streets every day collecting, processing and recycling the waste generated by our economy. The industry is on the front lines of disaster recovery, clearing debris to restore order and enable rebuilding in the wake of natural disasters. As demonstrated during hurricanes, wildfires, and earthquakes, their efforts not only ensure the safe disposal of hazardous materials but also pave the way for emergency responders and utility workers to restore essential services. This vital work continues long after the initial response, as communities rebuild and recover.

NWRA is committed to working with policymakers at all levels to advance initiatives that strengthen the industry’s ability to meet the growing challenges of environmental stewardship, sustainable waste management, and in response to natural disasters. The Association emphasizes the importance of regulatory frameworks that recognize and support the unique contributions of waste and recycling professionals with economically sound sustainable solutions.

“Our industry’s resilience and dedication are critical to daily management of waste and recycling and the disaster recovery and rebuilding, of impacted communities across the nation,” Hoffman added. “We are eager to collaborate with the new administration and Capitol Hill to help ensure the waste and recycling sector remains well-positioned to serve as a trusted partner in economically and environmentally sound waste and recycling best practices and disaster response efforts.”

As the nation looks to the future, NWRA and its members remain steadfast in their mission to support communities through essential services, innovative solutions, and sustainable practices.
