The Kansas Legislature gaveled in on January 4th at noon. Leaders gave speeches and the rules governing the legislative process for the year were discussed. Many committees on both the House and Senate sides commenced this week for bill introductions and committee rules reminders. Some committees offered presentations from various agencies or state entities to help legislators understand the various responsibilities and resources with which they are able to help. The Governor’s budget proposal was revealed which includes additional funding for the budget stabilization fund, raising the Social Security state tax exemption threshold, a school-supply sales tax holiday, and additional infrastructure leverage funding.
