In New York, chapter members are also concerned about the Climate Action Council’s final scoping plan which was approved on December 19th and will require the State to achieve a carbon-free electricity system by 2040 and reduce GHG emissions 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 and 85 percent by 2050. Also last week, Governor Hochul signed into law S.8830, an environmental justice bill that NWRA believes will make it increasingly difficult for members to build facilities or even renew permits on existing facilities in New York going forward. We are pushing for future chapter amendments will lessen that concern.
