Northeast_Region_Report

January 3, 2023:

In the Northeast, all the chapters are preparing for the new 2023 legislative sessions which begin in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont on Wednesday, January 4th (Maine’s session started in December, and New Jersey’s legislature reconvenes on January 11th).

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation is a hot topic in several of states with an especially strong push expected in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and possibly Massachusetts.  Other issues that will be of concern for the waste and recycling industry in the northeast include the Bottle Bill which almost passed in Vermont in the last session, and is expected to be active again there, as well as in New York and Massachusetts.
