January 17:

The Ohio chapter applauded Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine for signing legislation that included a ban on texting while driving. The law makes driving while texting a primary offense. A significant win for the Ohio chapter members is this piece of legislation excludes electronic logs and handheld devices that our members’ employees use daily in the cab.

Additionally, the Ohio legislative committee members are holding an ongoing conversation with Senator Reineke about his drafted bill, “Compliance Requirement before License or Permit Issuance.” As currently written, no permit or license shall be issued or renewed unless the director or board of health finds that a new solid waste facility or expansion will serve the public interest, convenience, and necessity.

This week, chapter members celebrated the retirement of the remarkable Kathy Trent, Senior Government Affairs Director for WM. Her career in the solid waste industry spans more than 30 years and earned her a spot in the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA) 2020 Hall of Fame.

On February 15th, beginning at 11:00 am, to kick off the 2023 Ohio Legislative session, the Ohio Chapter Legislative Committee will meet at the historical Athletic Club of Columbus for lunch following a meeting. In addition, our Chapter Lobbyist, Willa Eversole, will provide an update on the upcoming Ohio General Assembly Session and has extended an invitation to a guest speaker from the General Assembly. Click Here to Register.
