Abby Blocker Joins NWRA as Vice President, State Affairs

Blocker Will Use Her Experience to Energize Advocacy at State Houses Around the Country

Arlington, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) has added Abby Blocker to its state government affairs team where she will work to identify trends impacting the waste and recycling industry across various states and steer policy in a favorable direction.

“Many of the issues facing our industry are at the state and local level. The addition of Abby Blocker to our state government affairs team will only make NWRA a stronger voice for the waste and recycling industry with the tremendous skills and experience she brings with her,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith.

Blocker is an experienced lobbyist with a demonstrated history of working in state politics, grassroots lobbying and environmental compliance. She comes to NWRA from the Madison Coalition where she was the director of political relations. In that capacity, she led state and federal lobbying and advocacy efforts as well as conducted fundraising campaigns. Prior to Madison Coalition, she worked at Enercon Services supporting state compliance and she serviced as a consultant for the Environmental Project Agency. Her career began as a lobbyist at Arch Coal.

“I’m excited to Join NWRA’s prestigious team advocating for our members in the waste and recycling industry. I look forward to helping advance NWRA’s legislative and educational efforts on the state level,” said Blocker.

Blocker received her Masters of Science in Environmental Science and Policy from The Johns Hopkins University. She is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Science and Political Science.
