Connecticut Senate Expands Move Over Legislation to Include Waste Collection Workers

Bill Will Keep Workers Safe as They Do Their Jobs Along Connecticut Roadways

Arlington, VA – The Connecticut Senate passed SB 983, legislation that would make roads safer for waste and recycling collection workers.

“Slow Down to Get Around laws carry an important message—take your time and slow down around garbage trucks,” said Darrell Smith, president and CEO of the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA). “We applaud the Connecticut Senate for passing this important legislation. We urge the Connecticut House to pass it as well and Gov. Ned Lamont to sign it into law.”

NWRA member companies have been diligent in providing advanced safety training for drivers and those who hop off the trucks to make collections. However, distracted drivers operating near a collection truck are a major hazard for waste collection workers.
