NWRA Announces Formation of Tennessee Chapter

Arlington, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) is pleased to announce the formation of its Tennessee chapter. Several current NWRA members with operations in the state came together to formalize their efforts to represent the interests of the waste and recycling industry in Tennessee.

“Many issues facing the waste and recycling industry occur at the state and local level,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “We are pleased that nearly 20 individuals representing NWRA members helped organize this chapter to advocate for the industry in Tennessee.”

The chapter voted during its inaugural meeting to establish a legislative committee to address landfill capacity crises, pending legislation and regulatory actions, and third-party influence on state and regional master solid waste planning.

Michael Classen, from Republic Services, was elected Chair and will represent the chapter on the Board of Governors. Norma Yanez, from GFL, was elected Vice Chair, and Zay Louis, from Waste Connections, was elected Alternate to the Board of Governors.
