NWRA Congratulates DCA on 70 Years of Innovation in the Waste and Recycling Industry

Arlington, VA – The Detachable Container Association (DCA) celebrated its 70th Anniversary at its recent Winter Meeting. Several National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) members were in attendance, including many NWRA Hall of Fame members.

NWRA has a longstanding relationship with DCA and many NWRA members are also members of DCA. In 2021, the DCA Board of Directors established the Mickey & Ellen Flood Scholarship program aimed at benefitting NWRA member company employees and their dependents through the NWRA Women’s Council scholarship program. DCA regularly supports the industry with Women’s Council scholarships and EREF-funded scholars. Each year, they contribute $7,500 to the Mickey & Ellen Flood Scholarship program. Since at least 2017, DCA has contributed $10,000 annually to support the Women’s Council Scholarship program.

Current DCA President Stephen Smith said, “It is with great pleasure that the Detachable Container Association celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. As the oldest association in the solid waste industry, it has a commitment to participating and supporting the many programs within NWRA including the Future Industry Leaders Alliance and the Women’s Council. Many of the members of DCA have served in key leadership positions in our trade associations. We look forward to continued support of scholarships within the Women’s Council as we move forward through many more years.”

“We congratulate the Detachable Container Association on its 70th Anniversary and thank them for their support of the Women’s Council and the waste and recycling industry,” said NWRA Board of Trustees Chairman Don Ross. “They are an important industry partner, and we wish them another 70 years of continued success.”

The association was started in 1954 by Dempster Corporation. Today, DCA’s membership roster includes approximately 140 members. Membership is by invitation only, and only senior executive level candidates are considered.
