NWRA Participates in Multiple Virtual Industry Events This Week
Events include WasteExpo Together Online, United for Infrastructure 2020 and U.S. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) is participating in multiple virtual industry events this week. The events, which include WasteExpo Together Online, United for Infrastructure 2020 and National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, will provide attendees with valuable information on topics like safety, infrastructure, recycling, business resilience, COVID-19 challenges, technology, financials, organics, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), the 2020 election and more.
WasteExpo Together Online, held September 14-17, will feature more than 20 free educational sessions put together in partnership with NWRA. This year, NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith will sit down with GFL Environmental Founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi and Waste Connections Founder and Executive Chairman Ronald J. Mittelstaedt to discuss company culture, mergers and acquisitions, what leading issues may have an effect on the waste and recycling industry as a whole and what their predictions are for the industry over the coming years.
“My one-on-one discussions with Patrick and Ron will provide a detailed look at how businesses have been navigating through COVID-19 and preparing for the future of the industry,” said Smith. “While we can’t gather in person, WasteExpo Together Online will offer a safe and interactive way for members of the industry to further their education, connect with industry leaders and view the newest products.”
United for Infrastructure 2020, taking place September 14-21, advocates for better infrastructure policy and greater investment from all levels of government. This year, participants are seeking to elevate the policies to ensure every American has the infrastructure they need. Investing in infrastructure is consistently an issue that has strong bipartisan support from voters, with more supporters wanting government action on infrastructure than almost any other issue.
“The waste and recycling industry and the U.S. Postal Service are the only two entities that travel every road in America at least once every week. This makes the waste and recycling industry one of the most significant stakeholders in the surface transportation system,” stated NWRA Chief Counsel and Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Jim Riley. “Infrastructure is much more than roads and highways, though. The pandemic has illustrated the need for increased domestic recycling infrastructure in order to supply the necessary feedstock for the manufacture of essential items.”
“We are thrilled that NWRA has joined United for Infrastructure 2020,” said United for Infrastructure Executive Director Zach Schafer. “The state of America’s infrastructure is one of the nation’s most pressing issues. When we invest in infrastructure, we invest in ourselves.”
U.S. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, held September 13-19, takes on a special significance considering the crucial role truck drivers have played during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this week, NWRA will recognize truck drivers across the U.S. for their hard work and commitment to keeping our environment clean, roads safe and ensuring goods are delivered safely and securely.
“Drivers in the waste and recycling industry have been hard at work during the pandemic to ensure waste and recyclables are picked up and managed safely and properly,” said NWRA Chief of Staff and Vice President, Safety and Standards Kirk Sander. “NWRA recognizes these essential workers not just during U.S. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week but every day and will continue to work to make sure every one of them comes home each day.”
