NWRA Reminds Collection Workers to Be Alert, Be Aware and Drive Safe
Arlington, VA – This week’s Safety Monday, presented by Rumpke Waste & Recycling, reminds drivers to follow the Smith Systems’s Five Keys of Driving and avoid distractions. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 20 fatalities involving waste collection workers have been reported.
“Driver safety is important to us,” said Kirk Sander, chief of staff and vice president of safety and standards for the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA). “Preventing and avoiding incidents is not just luck; it can be attributed to skill and practicing good driving habits.”
“We are pleased to provide this industry-renowned safety resource to anyone who requests it,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “You do not need to be a member of NWRA to receive it.”
