NWRA’s Sander Named to Waste360’s 40 Under 40 List for 2022

Arlington, VA – Waste360 has named Kirk Sander, chief of staff and vice president of safety and standards for the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), to its 2022 40 Under 40 list. Sander has been at the front of several significant achievements for the industry. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sander was instrumental in obtaining the industry’s essential designation with the Department of Homeland Security that allowed the industry to continue to operate unhindered. He also worked with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to achieve a rare “association members only” exemption for hours of service/electronic logging devices.

“We congratulate Kirk on this achievement. With his leadership, the waste and recycling industry has made significant strides in safety,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “He is working hard to reduce the fatality rate in the industry by working with federal agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, as well as stakeholders including the National Safety Council.”

Waste360’s 40 Under 40 program recognizes inspiring and innovative professionals under the age of 40 who work in waste, recycling and organics and who have made a significant contribution to the industry.
